Meet Dina Alsaid

Dina Alsaid is an example of passion and determination. She works in the Dallas Area.

CATXAutism: Tell us about your Journey as an Autism Mom.

DA: Officially, August/ September 2013. But prior to that, I did have an idea that my child was autistic. I had early childhood intervention come to my home and do an initial evaluation and that's when they handed me information talking about neurological disorders.

CATX Autism: How was your journey of raising up your child with Special needs?

( resources, supports, experiences)

DA: In the very beginning, it was extremely difficult. It took a toll on my mental physical and emotional health. It also was strenuous on my marriage. My husband was in denial that our child had any issues and I was just trying to find my footing.  I was very blessed that from the beginning I had the support of The Warren Center and Richardson Texas

CATXAutism: Why did you decide to Join Cafe Azul TX?

DA: I know that in North Texas, groups are very segregated. I love the fact that in the Houston area organizations in groups were blended and representation is important.  I love the fact that it's all-inclusive not just those speaking Spanish but you have the passion to reach those who need the help.

CATXAutism: What does Cafe Azul Tx mean to you?

DA: To educate, inspire and motivate is what I hope I can do for others with my story.  It also goes back to being inclusive and offering the opportunity to see diversity. It's not just someplace you can go to get support or to have a mommy's group it is truly an all-inclusive program where if you need any type of assistance or help there is someone who can help you.

CATXAutism: What is the greatest thing you want to accomplish in the Autism/ Special Needs community?

DA: I want parents and caregivers to understand that they are not alone. I remember how I felt in those 1st couple years with my son's diagnosis and I never want other people to feel that they have no one there for them. It can be extremely lonely when dealing with the diagnosis.

I also want to tell my story of taking control of my own physical and mental health and how I used my son's diagnosis instead of letting it break me down. I turned my family's life around and became a pageant Queen and advocate.

If you live in the Dallas area, be sure to contact Dina for support. Also, connect with us on Facebook to stay informed about our upcoming events.
